There is also a new, optional all-wheel drive model.

The new all-wheel drive system is supplied by Haldex and includes a rear electronic limited-slip differential to balance power left and right on the car. It can direct power between 0 and 100% between the front and rear axles as well.

The all-wheel drive model with a six-speed manual hits 100km/h in 6.0 seconds or 6.3 seconds in the Insignia Sports Tourer OPC. Both are limited to a top speed of 250km/h. If the buyer opts to remove the speed limiter, then the top speed rises to 270km/h or 265km/h for the Sports Tourer OPC.

“With great attention to detail, our engineers have given it some decisive fine-tuning. This is evident in its design and in its even better driving performance. This puts the OPC squarely in the first league of mid-size series production sports cars,” said Michael Ableson, head of engineering for GM Europe.

Opel has restyled the exterior of the Insignia OPC with a unique front bumper with chrome trim around the foglights that Opel says should look like a saber tooth. The rear gets integrated rhomboid exhaust pipes.

The OPC also gets a thorough mechanical reworking over the previous car with a new rear axle that improves noise and vibration, new stability control programming and new damper settings tuned specifically for the OPC.

The interior gets a few upgrades as well including Recaro seats with optional leather and memory, OPC gearshift knob, performance steering wheel with optional heating and a new instrument panel that includes oil pressure, oil temperature, battery voltage, throttle position, brake power and g-force gauges that can be enlarged to an 8in screen as an option.
