Pagani unveils the Huayra

Pagani has unveiled its new model, the Huayra. With a name based on an ancient god of winds in the andes the Huayra is expected to cut the air at speeds above 370 km/h thanks to the Mercedes-Benz AMG-built 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 engine.

The replacement of the Zonda V12 will be making its first world appearance at this year’s Geneva Motor Show in March.

The new Pagani model receives its name from the Andean god of wind, which is said to command the breezes, winds, and blizzards that invade the mountains, cliffs and hills of the Andean highlands. The new supercar from Sant’Agata Bolognese will definitely challenge the winds.

The Huayra will be powered by a twin-turbocharged, dry-sumped 6.0-litre V12 engine that has a power output of 700 HP and produces torque of 1000 Nm. Thanks to it the Huayra should be able to storm to a top speed of 370km/h.

Still, according to Pagani engineers have worked on the engine in order to make the new supercar the most fuel-efficient amongst 12 cylinder sports cars with values that should compete with those of much smaller vehicles in the market. The Mercedes-AMG engine is matted with a transverse sequential seven speed gearbox and a dual plate clutch.

In terms of design the Huayra is a big supercar with 4605mm long, 2036mm wide and 1169mm tall. Still much work has been done in its weight reduction. Thanks to the use of a carbon-titanium monocoque, Pagani produced a vehicle that weights 1,350 kg, claiming that 56% of that mass is over the rear wheels.
