has officially announced its plans to build a £240m ($392 million or €287 million) factory in Itatiaia, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. When finished, it will have an initial production capacity of 24,000 vehicles and employ 400 people. The first cars will leave the factory in 2016.
“This new program will enable us to bring exciting new vehicles to them, with outstanding British design and engineering, creating a world-class Jaguar Land Rover facility incorporating leading premium manufacturing technologies,” said JLR CEO Dr. Ralf Speth.
Construction of the factory will begin in mid-2014, and the first vehicles will be produced in 2016. It will continue to expand the factory through 2020 to increase production and add more employees. Jaguar has not annouced what vehicles will be built in Brazil, but the plan is to produce full vehicles, rather than from knockdown kits.
