, French Industry Minister Arnaud Montebourg says that there will be concessions against PSA, if it wants government aid.
Montebourg made the announcement during an interview on Europe 1 radio and did not give specifics other than the company may have to suspend paying dividends to stockholders.
"Our strategy is that public aid, which is part of what the automobile sector is requesting, will not be granted without concessions," said Montebourg.
Montebourg had a closed doors meeting with members of the Peugeot family on Wednesday and said he specifically asked them why the company continued to pay dividends to shareholders while it was losing so much money. The Peugeot family has 37.9% voting rights for the company.
The controversy surrounding PSA began when the company announced that it would close the Aulnay factory in 2014 and cut a total of 8,000 jobs across France.
French President Francois Hollande has appointed Emmanuel Sartorius to investigate if the PSA cuts are really necessary. Sartorius will meet with Peugeot chairman Thierry Peugeot on Friday at company headquarters in Paris.
