is continuing to test and refine its 2014 LMP1 car. Now, three of its four drivers have been behind the wheel with only Mark Webber having yet to drive the car.

The LMP1 had its first on-track test at Porsche’s test track in Weissach, Germany, in June. It is now scheduling time at other tracks to further develop the car.

"The current test drives are enabling us to collect huge amounts of vital data; every single kilometer driven is important. However, in order to develop the highly complex LMP1 racing car so that it is fit to compete by the start of next year's season, many more kilometers of testing are required. We are pleased with the progress being made with each test,” said Fritz Enzinger, leader of the LMP1 program.

Neel Jani is the latest driver to test the LMP1. He officially signed with the team on July 1 and joins Romain Dumas, Timo Bernhard and Mark Webber.

Porsche has not yet revealed what powers its LMP1 car. The 2014 WEC rules force factory-backed LMP1 cars to use some amount of hybrid power. The rules are unlimited in terms of engine design and output, but the teams only have a limited amount of fuel per lap.

The Porsche LMP1 car will make its competition debut at the start of the WEC season next year. The series has not yet published its race calendar for next year.

“After 16 years, we once again want to be a works team in the top category with the LMP1 in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2014,” said Wolfgang Hatz, Porsche head of research and development.
