Weekend Motorsports Preview: The Season is Coming to an End

The ALMS, DTM and IndyCar Series are all ending this weekend

There is no Formula 1 race this weekend, but there is still a lot of excitement as several series come to a close.

In the US, the IndyCar Series has its final race of the season at Fontana at 8:00pm on Saturday, October 19.

On the same day, the American Le Man Series closes out its series with the 10-hour/1,000-mile (whichever comes first) Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta in Georgia on October 19 at at 11:30am. In Europe, the DTM closes out its season at the Hockenheimring.

The World Endurance Championship is not coming to an end yet, but it heads to Japan this weekend for the Six Hours of Fuji

DTM

The DTM heads to its final race of its season at the Hockenheimring. Mike Rockenfeller has already won the drivers’ championship, but the teams’ and manufacturers’ championships are still open.

The race at the 4.574km (2.8422 miles) course will run 42 laps. The race starts at 2:00pm on Sunday, October 20. Qualifying runs from 2:40pm to 3:50pm local time.

Augusto Farfus has already guaranteed second place with 116 points. The race to watch will be to see who takes third place in the drivers’ championship. There are just four points separating sixth and third place.

The top three positions in the teams’ championship is still wide open with 10 points separating the top three.

NASCAR

NASCAR has five races to go in its season, and this weekend is one of the biggest races of the year. This weekend’s race is at Talladega Superspeedway and will cover 500 miles over 188 laps at the 2.66-mile (4.281km) track. The race starts at 1:00pm on Sunday, October 20.

Matt Kenseth leads the series championship with a four-point lead over Jimmie Johnson. Kevin Harvick is in third place, 29 points behind Kenseth.

World Endurance Championship

The FIA WEC heads to the 4.563km-long (2.835-mile), 16-corner Fuji Speedway for a six-hour endurance race on Sunday, October 20. It is the series’ sixth of eight rounds. The race begins at 11:00am local time on Sunday, October 20, and qualifying will be on Saturday, October 19, from 1:20pm to 2:20pm.
