planned for the Detroit Motor Show the presentation of the new John Cooper WorksJohn Cooper WorksMINI (BMW) John Cooper WorksGermany, 2015 > present. In its third generation, the top version of the hatchback range receives the most powerful engine ever used in a MINI production model.

As it happened in previous generations, the new John Cooper Works is based on the three-door Cooper S and receives updates that give it a greater performance stance.

Changes include a unique front bumper with larger air intakes, LED headlamps with a distinctive design, different wheel arches cladding, a larger rear spoiler, a deeper rear bumper and centered chrome tailpipes.

Equipping the John Cooper Works, MINI put a revised version of the 2.0-liter four-cylinder Cooper S engine with an output of 231hp and 320Nm of torque combined with a six-speed manual gearbox or an optional six-speed automatic gearbox.

Weighing 100kg less than the previous generation (1205kg), the manual transmission version can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 6.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 246km/h. The average consumption is pointed at 6.7l/100km with 155g/km of CO2 emissions.

The automatic version adds 15kg to the weight (1220kg), but lower gear change ratios allows the new John Cooper Works to reach faster the 100km/h mark, 6.1 seconds. The average consumption is 5.7l/100km with 133g/km of CO2 emissions.

The MINI John Cooper Works will be available with 17-inch wheels as standard, but the brand will also offer 18-inch wheels as optional. In addition to a retouched suspension, the new version also gets Brembo brakes.

The interior of the John Cooper Works is also customized and includes specific sills, front seats with better support and integrated headrests, a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, a new shifting lever, stainless steel pedals and updated instrument graphics.

So far MINI showed no interest in launching a five-door version of the John Cooper Works.
