have received Top Safety Pick+ awards from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in the United States. The IIHS gave the Top Safety Pick+ award to 22 vehicles in 2014.

“The 2014 Mazda3, Mazda6 and CX-5 were created to be the best in their segments from fuel economy and safety to dynamics and performance, and having earned Top Safety Pick+ distinctions is further proof to their success,” said Jim O'Sullivan, President and CEO of Mazda North American Operations.

The IIHS rates crash test results as Good, Acceptable, Marginal and Poor and rates crash prevention as Superior, Advanced, Basic and Not Applicable.

To receive the award, a vehicle must receive “Good” classification in the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests, plus “Good” or “Acceptable results in the small overlap front test and at least a "Basic" rating for front crash prevention. It is the highest level of safety that the IIHS currently certifies.

The 2014 Mazda3, CX-5 and Mazda 6 all earned a Good rating for all crash impact tests and an Advanced rating for front crash prevention.

The IIHS is an independent organization funded by auto insurance companies in the United States that tests vehicle safety. Its standards are generally higher then the government’s auto safety tests.
