and Ericsson will work together on creating infotainment, app, communication and cloud services for future vehicles. Volvo will focus on driver behavior and safety, and Ericsson will work on integration.

Volvo is not saying when exactly this technology will be available, but it says that it will launch before its new scalable platform in 2014. The technology will play a large roll in the new platform according to Volvo.

Drivers will be able to download new applications, book service appointments and share data via a cloud-based service.

"We clearly see that cars in the near future will integrate the same level of digital services that consumers today are used to have in their homes or at work. This is a strategically important part of Volvo Cars' investments for the future where we intend to take a leading position," said Lex Kerssemakers, head of product strategy at Volvo.
