Cars that only men buy

While men's claim to authority in the automotive field has long been challenged by women that feel fuel running through their vains, there is one domain that remains almost exclusively reserved to the male species, one lonely furrow to plough.

What that might be you wonder? A  study of car sales in the United States in 2011 found that there are models that barely attract any female buyers, or in other words, that only appeal to male customers. These belong to a very special type of car, that only men comprehend and recognize in their entire beauty. This type of car may trigger a raised eyebrow in a woman, but it makes men pull out their cheque book.

Here are the Top 10 - you won't be surprised!

10. Chevrolet Corvette

With a percentage of male buyers of 86.9, the most iconic American sports car, the Corvette, comes in 10th place. In its 6th generation it still lives up to the standards to a horse-power addicted male clientele delivering 638hp and comes with a status-inducing pedigree that very few can compete with.

9. Ford F-Series

The Ford F-Series has since 1948 build itself a repuation as one of the most reliable and most powerful blue-collar workers that are around. Clearly, this is the choice for the true men of action, the contractors, the self-made men who are looking for the undestructable, tireless machine. Percentage of male buyers: 87.0 percent.

8. GMC Sierra

8th on this list of men-only cars comes the GMC Sierra. Just as the F-Series, this one is only for real men that like to dirty their hands. This toy was definitely not made for the ladies, no wonder, the percentage of male buyers is about 87.5 percent.

7. Nissan GT-R

Basically the entry-level model to a serious speed-addict career, the Nissan GT-R is no cotton candy roller-coaster ride. 530hp and 315 km/h top speed convince a percentage of 87.9 spunky male customers, while most of the ladies probably said "no thanks" after the first dashing test drive.

6. Porsche 911

The Porsche 911 is already for those further up in the petrol head food chain. In its inherently darwinistic logic, the top-end sportscar identifies the alfa male behind the steering-wheel. But that would be too basic, if there wasn't this air of cultivated quality, traditional values and technological sophistication to it, that gives it a saturated 88.2 percent of male buyers.

5. Ferrari California

Ferrari is passion. Men with a passion for fast, loud and expensive cars account for an impressive 88.4 percent of purchases of the California. Not surprisingly, this isn't the only Ferrari on this list, since there are so many passionate men with the cash-bash out there and only one brand called Ferrari.

4. Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG

4th comes the SLS AMG, with 90.0 percent of its buyers being male. This giant metal chunk will probably cause a nervous breakdown to most women, just theoretically considering the option of parking it in busy urban traffic. But size matters, and taking two, not just one parking space is the AMG-way of marking the territory. And not to forget the grand entrace performing the gullwing lift!

3. Audi R8

Opening the top three is the Audi supercar R8. It can count on a good 91.4 percent of male buyers with its italo-teutonic genetic mix. Horsepower and speed addicted executives appreciate this straight-forward Lamborghini Gallardo sibling.

2. BMW 1 Series M Coupé

BMW isn't exactly the brand that you would expect to find on the second spot when it comes to cars particularly unpopular with women, and also the 1 Series seems a rather gender-neutral car. But add an "M" on the name and the whole thing looks a whole lot different, with 340hp and 92.2 percent of buyers being men.

1. Ferrari 458 Italia

The apex of male-dominated car-shopping comes under the name 458 Italia and disposes of a number of pretty convincing arguments that lure the defenseless prey into this costly aquisition: V8 engine sound, 570hp and 325 km/h top speed, Italian genes, beautiful, curvy body in shiny red paint that screams: I AM A FERRARI! Women though seem to be largely immune to this charm: 95.7 percent of buyers are men.
