The 10 Most Amazing Car Collections

The 10 Most Amazing Car Collections

How many cars do you have standing in you garage? 1 or 2 at the most, we bet.

Take a look at these fantastic collections and try not to feel a bit of envy! Luckily, quite a few of these treasuries are actually open to the public and you can stop by to marvel at the shiny metal first hand.

Until you make it there, flip through our gallery below...watch out though: drooling danger!

Brian Johnson

Brian Johnson, lead singer at AC/DC not only likes the heavy, but also the fast metal and has built up a treasury consisting of machinery such as a 2007 Rolls-Royce Phantom, a 2008 Audi Q7, Audi R8...But despite the love for horse power, he also shows a soft spot for small odd cars and so in his garage sits also a 1957 Vespa 400, a modern Fiat 500 and a 1973 DS 23.

Jerry Seinfeld

The comedian has made himself a name as Porsche collector and supposedly owns about 50 vehicles from the German manufacturer. He is said to possess 10 Boxsters, several 911s and a 550 Spyder from 1955, similar to the one James Dean drove when he had his fatal accident. Highlight of the collection is his Porsche 959, one out of only 337 ever produced. Ironically, the car is not street-legal in the US and confined to the garage.

Nick Mason

The drummer of Pink Floyd has a gusto for racing cars, that becomes strikingly obvious when looking at his collection consisting of 40 vehicles alltoghether. Besides iconic Ferrari 250 GTO (picture), there is a McLaren F1 GTR, Bugatti Type 35, Ferrari 512 S, Ferrari 250 MM Berlinetta, and, and, and. Mason's love for cars even led him to publish several automotive books and he also participates in classic racing events.

Jay Kay

At least since launching the video to his single "Cosmic Girl", Jay Kay's love for fast and furious cars is widely known. He has backed his reputation as petrol head with appearances on Top Gear and a private collection consisting of - amongst others - a Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Mercedes-Benz 600, BMW 3.0 CSL, Lamborghini Miura SV and a classic Maserati A6G 54 (picture).

Umberto Panini

Umberto Panini made his fortune - as you might have guessed already - by inventing the sticker-collection. While we collected images of footballers, he collected iconic Maseratis as the Tipo 61 Birdcage and other classic beauties from Alfa Romeo to Mercedes. And besides the cars, Umberto also owns about 500 motorcycles. The collection can be visited at the Museo Panini in Modena upon previous reservation.

Ralph Lauren

Designer Ralph Lauren likes to match his outfit with a car, so he possesses well over 70, very exquisit cars indeed, to drive in style to all occasions. The outstanding collection encompasses such rarities as the Bugatti 57SC Atlantic (see picture), a Mercedes 300SL Gullwing, a Blower Bentley from 1929, a Mercedes-Benz CountTrossi "Black Prince" SSK...and many more.

Jay Leno

Jay Leno, besides being known as American entertainer, is also a famed car collector counting about 100 cars and 90 motorcycles. He publicly displays his colllection via his website Jay Leno's Garage and writes various automotive columns for magazines. He frequently takes his collectibles out for a ride - amongst them show stoppers as a Lamborghini Countach, Oldsmobile Toronado or Ariel Atom.

Sultan of Brunei

The collection of the Sultan of Brunei is somewhat legendary as it totalls about 2500 vehicles, many of which have supposedly fallen into neglect. Sadly, as Porsche 959s, Ferrari 456s, 550s, Testa Rossas and the like, are not exactly the most common items that one should let rott away in a shed. If it falls into oblivion, this collection will do as the most amazing barn find in a couple of decades from now.

Sheikh Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan

The private collection of Sheikh Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan is on public display at the Emirates National Auto Museum. It is not only astonishing due to its size, but also thanks to a wide variety of oddieties, like this "Bigfoot" Merc. In total, about 200 vehicles dating from the 1950s to the 1990s are shown, many are highly modified and absolutely unique.

Harold E. LeMay

Today a museum, the collection of 3000 vehicles built by Harold E. LeMay until his death in the year 2000, was recognized by the Guiness Book of Records as the biggest private collection in the world. It has everything, from the 1906 Cadillac Model M, to the 1983 DeLorean DMC 12 and even the 1994 Flintmobile.

Luckily for me, the LeMay museum is literally just up the road from me, although I am yet to go and drool over all the amazing cars, I am planning a trip soon to check it out.
