$ 2.530.803 is the price tag found on the Bugatti Veyron Super Sports, currently the most expensive car in the world. Too much? Not. If you compare it with the most valuable cars in the world it's only peanuts. The cheapest in our Top 10 starts some multiples above this value and from there on the rise is nuts.
 
Their historical importance, uniqueness and almost mystic aura in which they are involved makes these the most coveted cars on the planet. Some are even beyond the reach of the rich sheiks of the petroleum...

Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Roadster

The world's most valuable car. Driven by Stirling Moss, it won the mythical Mille Miglia in 1955 and Moss is quoted as calling it the "greatest sportscar ever built". It has never been sold and remains property of Daimler AG. Hence, its value can only be estimated, but one can expect it to beat all records, once auctioned-off.

Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé

Yet unsold and to the present day in the hands of Mercedes-Benz, the Uhlenhaut Coupé's value is a matter of speculation. For sure that it would be out of this world. Unreachable, from Mercedes glorious era in motorsports, some experts hint at a possible auction value rounding $50 Million.

Ferrari 250 GTO

There's a new auction champion regarding selling price. In the 2014 edition of the Monterey Car Week a Ferrari 250 GTO was sold at the Bonhams Auction by the record amount of 38.115.000 dollars. With this sale the 250 GTO directly becomes one of the most valuable cars in the world

Rolls-Royce 40/50 Silver Ghost

The 40/50 hp with chassis number 60551 was nicknamed "Silver Ghost" a name that would later identify the entire model. Famed for its reliability it made the name for Rolls-Royce. This specific car was first insured for the sum of  $35,000,000 in 2005 and recently for $57,000,000, a sales price is unknown.

Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic

In 2010, this car received a bid in California for approximately $40 million and became the most expensive car ever sold in an auction. The extremely rare car is admired for its beauty, another of its kind is owned by designer Ralph Lauren.

Mercedes-Benz W196 Motortyp 196

Driven in 1954 and 1955 by Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss, this car won 9 out of 12 races and claimed both championships under driver Fangio. In 2013 the 1954 W196R was sold for 29 million dollars making it the highest ever paid for a racecar and the highest ever paid for a Mercedes-Benz.

Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa

In 2011 the 250 Testa Rossa set another record for Ferrari, selling for an unbelievable $16,390,000 at an auction in Italy.  

Bugatti Type 41 Royale

The Bugatti Royale is one of the most desired models in the world because of its uniqueness and design. One of its versions, the Kellner Coupe was sold for an estimated $15.7 million in 1990. It has since rarely been seen.

Ferrari 375 MM Pininfarina Berlinetta

A 1953 Ferrari 340/375 MM Berlinetta with a body by Pininfarina sold for $12.75 million at auction in Switzerland in 2013.  It is the only known Ferrari raced by three World Sports Car Champions during its competitive career - Alberto Ascari, Dr. Nino Farina, and Mike Hawthorn.

Auto-Union Type D

The D Type is reknown for its advanced technology, ahead of its time and in many ways similar to todays modern racing cars. One of five remaining Auto Union D-Types was put to auction in 2007, its value estimated at more than $12 million, but no buyer was found.

Ford GT

This 1968 Ford GT/Mirage sold for $11 million at RM's Monterey auction on August 18, 2012. It was the most an American car has ever sold for at auction. This GT40 was part of the first three cars to be painted with the blue and orange Gulf livery. It started as a Mirage, which was a company built more aerodynamic bodies for GT40s and were among the first to use carbon fiber. It was also the camera car for the film Le Mans. 

Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider

In 2008 this car earned a record auction bid of $10,894,900. British radio moderator Chris Evans bought the car and it subsequently appeared in an episode of Top Gear driven by James May.

Duesenberg J

Auctioned by Gooding & Company in 2011 at Pebble Beach, this car obtained a bid of $10.3 million and is not only the most expensive Duesenberg sold at an auction but also the most valuable American car in the world.
