1.6T in the World Touring Car Championship race at the Shanghai International Circuit on November 3. The car will be driven by 2013 Swedish Touring Car Champion Thed Björk.
"We are entering this race to check the pulse of WTCC, as well as celebrating Thed Björk's amazing performance in the STCC this year," said Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin, Motorsport Commercial Director at Volvo Cars.
Volvo Polestar Racing last raced in the WTCC in 2011, and Björk will drive that car in the races in Shanghai.
After 2011, Volvo switched focus to developing the S60 for racing, and it is currently racing in the United States and Sweden, and it will race in the Australian V8 Supercars series next season.
“We still think WTCC represents possibly the best value for money and one-fits-all global motorsport solution if you want to race with a smaller c-segment car. Consequently, we are keen on staying closely informed and this is precisely our objective with Shanghai,” said Schedvin.
Björk won nine of the 12 races in the STCC this season and was previously champion in 2006. He came in second in the STCC championship in 2005 and 2009. He also has experience in the DTM and 24 Hours of Le Mans.
"I am looking forward to make my WTCC debut with Volvo and I am very grateful to get this opportunity. The WTCC is a very competitive championship and the challenge for us is going to be great, said Björk.
Volvo says that there are no further plans to race in the WTCC beyond this race neither later this season nor in the future.
