John Tojeiro was a car constructor that played a major role in the British car racing history. Born in Portugal in 1923, son of an English mother and Portuguese father, he came to England in the late 1920s. “Toj”, as he was known amongst friends, became famous for his chassis designs. It all started in the 1950s when Tojeiro decided to build a race car for himself. The success of the car led to more orders, including one from Cliff Davis. Tojeiro was the first to build a race car with a mid-engine layout to improve handling and traction.
