The Golf GTI Cabrio Austria was the product of the 2013 team of apprentices from Volkswagen and it was shown at the Wörthersee-Treffen 2013.

The GTI Cabrio Austria was built by 13 VW apprentices from Wolfsburg and Osnabrück. The apprentices come from VW's mechatronics technician, vehicle interior fitter, model maker and paint technician programs. It took them a year starting from sketches to complete the final car. The team had the entire VW parts catalog to choose from, but had to negotiate with suppliers for many of them. They also had to present milestones to the Board of Management.

The car is painted in red and pearl-effect white to reflect the Austrian flag, and the interior has a similar color scheme. The exterior also features red brake calipers, red mirror caps and a red grill. Inside, it has black, red and white leather Recaro seats with "Austria" embroidered on the headrests. The gearshift boot and seat belts are also red, and the floor mats and steering wheel have red stitching. The team also replaced the standard stereo with a 2,250w unit with 11 speakers that replace the rear seats.
