Volkswagen presented in Qatar 2011 two special editions of its Touareg model: the Race Touareg 3 Qatar, a street legal version of the Dakar Rally race car and the Touareg Gold Edition, a version enhanced with 24-carat gold.
The Race Touareg 3 Qatar is almost identical to the SUV that competed South America. The version presented in Qatar is a slightly modified adaptation of the Race Touareg 3, and has authorization to drive on the streets.
The Race Touareg 3 Qatar’s body was changed for road use and is fitted with new 18-inch wheels from BBS with a gold look, instead of 16-inch wheels. The vehicle received a golden “Race Touareg” signature that crosses its entire profile, on both sides.
Inside the Race Touareg 3 has suffered a major transformation, with the safety cage being the only aspect that remained intact. Volkswagen equipped it with Recaro racing bucket seats, designers also created a so-called "Stealth look" and as tribute to the Dakar Rally, the Dakar victories are etched in the anodised aluminium of the centre console, right next to the "Race Touareg" signature.
