Would you buy a 5 series Active Hybrid?
So, the BMW 5 Series 'Active Hybrid' has a conventional torque converter gearbox. That's great news for us 'drivers' as the CVT normally used in hybrid models sacrifices all of the pleasures of driving in favour of efficiency. It is too large a price to pay.
However, the 'Active Hybrid' only does 44 mpg, which makes you wonder what the point is? Most a 530d or 535d will suit most people better, especially when it comes to the extra torque the diesel cars produce.
This doesn't make the 5 series hybrid a bad car, but it does render it a little bit pointless, unless you really want to make a 'GREEN' statement.
