about this car
Unveiled at the 1969 Geneva Motor Show, the Porsche 917 was a race car that competed at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and gave Porsche some of its first victories. This version is a long-tail variation of the 917, thus the name LH or Langheck in German.
One of the main goals in the development of the car was to reduce the car's weight. That was achieved by using aluminium instead of steel on the tubular frame and using titanium and magnesium in other components as well. The 917 LH was also fitted with a new 12 cylinder 4.5 litre engine.
The 917 LH was placed in second at the 1970 Le Mans and competed at the 1971 Le Mans race but didn't finish.
Only five cars were produced and only three remain intact until today.
