Porsche has revealed that the new diesel version of its four-door GT sedan, the Panamera, will be able to travel over 1,200 kilometres on a single filling of its 80 litre tank. This is thanks to an impressive fuel economy of 6.3 l/100km when running on optional low friction tyres, which Porsche say will get you from from Berlin to Bologna without refuelling. Running standard tyres see consumption rise to 6.5 l/km.
Porsche says they have achieved these figures by fitting electrically controlled variable geometry turbochargers (VGTs) to the Panamera’s 3.0 litre diesel V6, as well as ‘common rail direct injection through piezo valves at a pressure of 2000 bar’ and ‘emission control achieved by controlled exhaust gas recirculation, oxidation catalyst and particle filter’. Auto start/stop is also fitted as standard.
The performance delivered by these upgrades amounts to a power output of 250 hp (184 kW) between 3,800 rpm and 4,400 rpm, and a maximum torque of 550 Nm available from 1,750 rpm to 2,750 rpm. Combined with an eight-speed Tiptronic S gearbox, the Panamera Diesel will accelerate to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 242 km/h.
The Panamera Diesel is to go on sale in August and will cost 80,183 euro.
