LMP2 car in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with an eye towards building its own car for the race in the coming years. Caterham F1 Reserve Driver Alexander Rossi, Tom Kimber-Smith and Eric Lux will drive the car.
The car will race under Caterham Motorsport sponsorship with a green and white livery with "Caterham" across the top fin. It will be Caterham's first ever visit to Le Mans, and Alexander Rossi's first attempt at the race.
“Straight after driving in FP1 for Caterham F1 Team in Montreal, I’ll be back in Europe to start my Le Mans work. I’m excited about the challenge ahead and honored with the opportunity to represent Caterham and the US at one of the most prestigious motorsport events of the year," said Rossi.
Because Caterham is partnering with an existing team in the World Endurance Championship, they are going to take the opportunity to prepare for a possible LMP2 customer offering in the future. It will embed its engineers with the team and data analysis equipment on the car to learn more about racing at Le Mans.
“While there won’t be any specification changes we can apply to the car for this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours, because the car is homologated for the whole season, we will be looking in more detail at how our various areas of expertise across both Caterham Technology & Innovation and Caterham Composites can be applied to a customer Sports Prototype program in future," said Caterham CEO Mike Gascoyne.
Like Alpine, Caterham is hoping the Le Mans sponsorship will link its name to sports car racing in the public imagination ahead of its sports car partnership with Caterham in 2016.

Caterham has only released a single image of the car, but it will make its track debut during Le Mans testing on June 8.
