Calling DRS controversial among Formula 1 fans would be an understatement, but it has done its jobs. In a recent study, DRS was responsible for nearly half of the passes in Formula 1 last season. The FIA is keeping DRS for the 2012 season, but it is tweaking the location of the DRS zones at some circuits.
The zones will be widened at tracks were it was deemed by the FIA that passing is too hard, and they will be shortened at circuits where the FIA felt passing was too easy. For example, there will be a second DRS zone at the Australian Grand Prix, and the second zones in Canada and Valencia will be removed. Other changes have not yet been finalized.
