officially unveiled the new family of gasoline and diesel high performance engines: Ingenium. The new engines will debut with the new sedan XEJaguar XE S 3.0 V6 Superc...United Kingdom, 2015 > present arriving on the market in 2015.
The new compact engines with modular construction, low weight, high levels of torque and low consumption and emissions introduces new technologies that the group intends to use in its future models.
In order to meet growing customer demand for more efficient mechanical and lower costs without sacrificing performance or the driving experience, Jaguar Land Rover has developed its own family of gasoline and diesel low friction and high performance engines with advanced technology.
A major challenge in developing the new engine family was to answer to a series of requirements. One of those goals was to make the new engines flexible and configurable so they were adaptable to the full range of new models of Jaguar and Land Rover. Moreover engines have to facilitate the creation of variants of greater or smaller displacement in the future and incorporate a comprehensive range of propulsion systems, including front, rear and all-wheel drive. The new engines have also been set in order to adapt to manual and automatic transmissions as well as hybrid electric propulsion systems. Finally they have also been developed to allow easy incorporation of new advances in engine technologies as they become available.
All versions of the new Ingenium, both petrol and diesel engines, will be equipped with next-generation turbochargers that improve performance, especially at low speeds, and contribute to reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
The modular design enables Ingenium gasoline and diesel to share many internal components and calibration strategies. This allows a reduction of complexity, increased quality and simplifies the production whilst allowing Jaguar Land Rover to react quicker to changes in global demand.
The Ingenium family incorporates a full range of innovations with regard to high performance engines: a high torque at low revs, effortless acceleration and a level of emissions and fuel economy leader in the segment. These characteristics have been achieved thanks to a strategy to reduce internal friction. For example in the first Ingenium engine that will go into series production, a 2.0 liter diesel engine, the friction was reduced by 17% compared with the current engine, since it is one of the most efficient turbodiesel engine and higher capacity response in the segment.
Currently Jaguar Land Rover already dominates the sector of production of vehicles with lightweight aluminum body. The introduction of Ingenium complements the lightweight chassis experience of the company with new propulsion systems
The engineers at Jaguar Land Rover focused on reducing vehicle weight by optimizing all components in each system, including the propulsion system. Despite adding additional features and power, the Ingenium engines weigh 80 kg less than the equivalent current engines.
