for the 2014 model year with a new nine-speed automatic transmission, new driver assistance programs and better efficiency.

"We are thrilled to be moving the Evoque on to the next stage and believe the exciting new driveline technology, driver safety and convenience features plus the Land Rover InControlTM connectivity capability, make the 2014 Evoque an unbeatable choice for customers seeking the ultimate in compact SUV vehicles," said Land Rover Global Brand Director John Edwards.

The nine-speed automatic transmission reduces fuel consumption by 11.4% and CO2 emissions by 9.5% in the most efficient model.

Land Rover is also adding a new, optional feature called Active Driveline that adds on demand all-wheel drive. The system disconnects the all-wheel drive system above 22mph so that the car is only powering the front wheels. It can reconnect the drive to the rear wheels within 300 milliseconds if it detects the wheels slipping. The system also adds and electronic differential with active torque biasing for the rear wheels. petrol engine for now.

WIth the nine-speed automatic and Active Driveline, the Evoque uses 57.6 mpg UK and 129g/km of  CO2 emissions.

All powertrains will be available with an optional torque vectoring braking system that can correct understeer by braking the wheels as needed. It works with both the Active Driveline and the standard four-wheel drive system.

Land Rover is also adding a driver assistance package to the Evoque that adds automatic parallel parking exit and entry, cross vehicle dectection, reverse traffic detection, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition and water wading sensing.

A further optional feature is InControlTM that adds automatic emergency calling in the event of an accident and automatic vehicle tracking in case of theft.

There are also new color options for the interior and four new wheel designs.

The 2014 model year cars will be available first in the UK in the fourth quarter of 2013.
