The 2012 Land Rover Defender is getting a significant engine update. The old 2.4 liter diesel is out and in its favor comes a new, diesel 2.2 liter four-cylinder that conforms to EU5 specifications. On top of the new engine, Land Rover is offering five option packages to let buyers customize the their cars to their specifications.
The new 2.2 liter diesel makes exactly the same power as the old 2.4 liter: 122hp and 360Nm. Even 0-60mph remains the same at 14.7 seconds. The changes come in CO2 emissions. The new diesel has an emissions rating of 266g/km for the Defender 90 and 295g/km for the Defender 110 and 130. The new engine is also quieter thanks to a new engine cover. Top speed has also been raised up to 90mph.
In addition to the S and SE trim levels, the 2012 Defender will also be available with five option packages: Comfort Pack, which adds air conditioning and a CD player; Exterior Pack; Interior Pack, which adds carpeted floors and partial leather seats and steering wheel; Leather Pack, which adds more leather to the interior; Off-Road Pack, which adds anti-lock brakes, heavy duty rims and tires and a tow ball.
The new Defender will be on sale soon, but Land Rover did not announce prices for the new option packages.
