New Chevrolet Volt arrives in 2015

Second generation of the electric plug-in model will be unveiled at NAIAS

. The official unveilling of the second generation model was confirmed for January, during the 2015 edition of the Detroit Motor Show, the NAIAS.

Apart from the official release date, the brand revealed the first official image that shows the rear of the vehicle. A renewed emblem Volt and the redesigned opening tailgate can be spotted in the teaser.

GM's Global Chief Marketing Officer Tim Mahoney, responsible for the announcement of the new Chevrolet Volt, revealed that the model will suffer widespread improvements ranging from technology to design.

According to information revealed by Automotive News, the next generation Chevrolet Volt will introduce a third passenger seat in the back and the 1.4 liter four-cylinder combustion engine will be replaced with a three cylinder 1.0 engine.

CEO Dan Akerson who believed that in 2012 only, the brand would be selling 60.000 units. Still, the Volt is the most sold plug-in model in the US.

This year, by the end of July, Chevrolet had sold 10,635 units, a number which is 9% lower than last year. In 2013 the brand sold 23,094 Volts, 2% less than in 2012.

Chevrolet revealead, however, that 70% of buyers who decide to buy the Volt come from outside the group General Motors brands. The company referred that a large percentage were former owners of a Toyota PriusPriusToyota PriusJapan, 1997 > present4 series
