Opel is adding its LPG, liquified petroleum gas, engines to several of its models in Europe. The Astra 5-door, Astra Sports Tourer and Meriva will be available with Opel's 1.4 LPG turbo. It made the Corsa 3-door and 5-door available with the 1.2 LPG Turbo last summer
The 1.4 turbo produces 140hp and 200Nm of torque in the Astra models. It uses 7.9l/100km of LPG and produces 129g/km of CO2 in the Astra 5-door, the Astra Sports Tourer uses 8.1l/100km and produces 132g/km. The 1.4 turbo in the Meriva, despite being the same engine, produces 120hp and 175Nm of torque. It uses 7.6l/100km and produces 124g/km of CO2.
The 1.2 turbo in the Corsa produces 83hp and 110Nm of torque. It uses 6.8l/100km in the 3-door and 7.1l/100km in the 5-door. The 3-door is rated at 110g/km of CO2, and the 5-door is rated at 115g/km of CO2.
The Astra 5-door with the LPG motor costs €22,670, the Sports Tourer costs €23,770, the Meriva costs €22,240. All of those prices are for Germany. The Corsa models have been on sale since last summer and cost €16,490 for the 3-door and €17,230 for the 5-door.
Opel said that it will also begin selling versions of the Insignia and Zafira Tourer with the 1.4 LPG turbo this autumn.
