Porsche will be launching in this year’s spring a special edition based on the 345 hp (254 kW) Carrera with a 3.6 litre engine. The 911 Carrera is getting a Black Edition featuring a significant technologic package that will be available in both the Coupé and Cabriolet variants.
The 911 Black Edition will only have a total of 1,911 units produced and will be tagged with the same price of the Carrera basic models. Market launch is scheduled to April 2011.
The special edition will be painted in plain black as standard, with basalt black metallic also available as an option. In the Cabrio version the hood is principally of black cloth. As Black dominates, in this Black Edition the colour highlights are a responsibility of the 19 inch 911 Turbo II bi-colour wheels. The black, four-piston aluminium monobloc fixed calipers are visible thanks to the unobstructed view of the brakes provided by the rims.
The special edition features a "Black Edition’s" black lettering on the stainless steel door entry guards, this is only the entrance to the purist sports car interior of the 911 Black Edition.
The color scheme starts at the outside and continues inside being equipped as standard with high-quality partial leather seats. Included in this special edition is a sports design steering wheel. Everything in the instrument cluster also comes in black. Testifying the limited production run of the 911 Black Edition, a badge has been placed on the glove compartment lid.
The 911 Black Edition is powered by a typical Carrera flat-six cylinder engine that produces 345 hp at 6,500 rpm. The 3,614cc engine matted with a six-speed gearbox is able to reach a top speed of 289 km/h in both body versions. In terms of acceleration, the Coupé version goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and the Cabriolet in 5.1 seconds.
Fuel consumption is fixed at 10.3 litres of fuel (NEDC) per 100 kilometres for the Coupé version and 10.4 on the open top version.
The 911 Black Edition can also be ordered with the Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) technology. Thanks to it the 911 Black Edition has fuel consumption levels of 9.8 l/100 km and 9.9 l/100 km in the Coupé and Cabriolet versions respectively.
The performance is also enhanced by the PDK technology, which enables the Coupé version to sprint in 4.7, while the Cabrio makes it in 4.9 seconds.
