GT3 Cup, the first to be based on the 991 chassis, during its Night of Champions celebration at its motorsports headquarters in Weissach. In addition to showing next year's cup car, it revealed that a completely factory-backed team that will operate out of the Weissach headquarters would run its LMP1 prototype in 2014.

The 2013 911 GT3 Cup will only compete in the Porsche Supercup for the 2013 season because of limited production capacity. The rest of Porsche's regional cup series will start getting the updated car next year. While the Supercup uses the exact same cars as the regional series, it is the only one of the series to travel internationally as a support race for Formula 1 and is meant for the best drivers.

“The new 911 GT3 Cup is much easier to drive at the limit. The car is excellently balanced. The new axle geometry is enormously positive for the handling. Apart from that the new Cup 911 is great fun to drive," said factory driver Timo Bernhard.

The new GT3 Cup will race with a 3.8-liter flat six with 453hp at 7,500rpm, which is 10hp than the previous car. They will use a six-speed transmission with paddle shifters with power going to the rear wheels. It is the first time that the GT3 Cup will not come with an conventional manual transmission.

The wheels will be new single-piece units developed by Porsche Motorsport, and all cars will use Michelin tires that are 27cm (10.6in) wide in front, 2cm (0.8in) wider, and 31cm (12.2in) wide in the rear, 10cm (3.9in) wider.

The brakes are the same with 380mm (14.96in) slotted rotors with six-piston calipers in front and four-piston calipers in the rear.

The cars have a new roll cage and seat that are designed to be safer. There is also a rescue hatch in the roof.

The cars all start on the assembly line in Zuffenhausen and are then moved to Weissach for modification.

Prices start at €181,200 plus local taxes. All cars will be delivered in white.

The 911 GT3 Cup has become one of the most ubiquitous race cars of the modern age. Since its introduction in 1998, Porsche has built 2,395 of them on the 996911 GT3Porsche 911 GT3Germany, 1999 > present3 photos
