has announced the first car for new GT Daytona class in the United States Sports Car series. The 2014 Porsche 911 GT America is basically identical to the 991-chassis Porsche 911 GT3 Cup911 GT3 CupPorsche 911 GT3 CupGermany, 2013 > present but with a modified rear wing and air intake.

The 911 GT America uses a 4.0-liter aluminum flat-six engine with 470hp and Porsche six-speed sequential gearbox with pneumatic paddle shifters. It gets a motorsport-spec front spoiler, rear diffuser, carbon fiber undertray and USCR-spec rear wing. It also gets quick releases for the brake calipers, fast-filling system for the oil and external oil level display. For added safety, there is a quick-removal system in the roof that allows the driver to be removed if the car is on its side.

“We are hopeful that our current American Le Mans Series GTC customers, along with our Rolex Grand-Am competitors and new teams, will want to take advantage of this early availability,” said Jens Walther, president of Porsche Motorsport North America.

Deliveries for the new car will begin in October for $269,000, plus shipping from Germany and spare parts.

Next year the Grand-Am Rolex Sport Car Series and American Le Mans Series will merge into the United States Sports Car series. There will be four classes in the new racing series – Prototype for LMP2 cars and Daytona Prototypes, Prototype Challenge for the same Oreca-ChevroletFLM09 ChevroletOreca FLM09 ChevroletFrance, 2009 > present1 photo
