Porsche 918 Spyder to cost half-million euros

The new Porsche 918 Spyder might become the most expensive model of the German brand’s history. According Bloomberg, revealing information from Porsche AG insiders, the estimated price of the 198mph supercar should be above the 453,000 euro Carrera GT. This news came out after Porsche’s sales decreased by 40 per cent in its biggest market in the US.

Although the model isn’t yet available for pre-order, according to the insiders Porsche has already received 2,000 expressions of interest in the 918 Spyder, one of the three models featuring hybrid technology showcased at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

The prototype shown in Geneva had CO2 emissions of 70g/km thanks to two 109bhp 80kW electric motors which were able power the supercar for 15.5 miles.

The 918 Spyder is powered by a 3.4-litre V8 petrol 500bhp engine which boasts the supercar up to 320 km/h and from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds.

Porsche is yet to announce a date for production or to confirm the price of the greener, faster and lighter supercar. The German carmaker is expected to approve a limited series of the model when it reaches a certain level guarantees.
