SUV to begin. The Leipzig plant currently has 1,150 workers, and Porsche is adding 1,000 more permanent jobs to build the smaller truck.

“We have a new addition to our model family – now we're looking for qualified and highly motivated people in production for the realization of our ambitious goals,” said Dr. Oliver Blume, head of logistics at Porsche.

In addition to the 1,000 workers in Leipzig, Porsche is hiring 180 more engineers for its location in Saxony.

The response to the hiring has been dramatic. Porsche says that it has received 16,500 applications for the positions already in just the first week of the search.

Porsche invested €500 million into the Leipzig factory to build a new paint shop and body shop for the Macan.

The Macan will begin production at the end of the year, and Porsche says that it began testing the new body stamping machines in the plant this week.

Porsche recently began letting factory employees work 34 hours per week for the same pay and benefits as 40-hour a week workers as long as productivity does not fall.
