Porsche launches limited Boxster S Black Edition

Porsche has revealed yet another limited edition, this time for the Boxster model line. The new Boxster S Black Edition is a luxurious top model that will have a production limited to 987 cars. This special edition will be launched in March 2011 and in Germany it will be tagged with a price of 63,404 euro including VAT and country-specific equipment.

The 3.4-litre six-cylinder engine with direct fuel injection powering the Boxster S Black Edition will provide 320 hp, ten more than the Boxster S, at 7,200 rpm. Com pared with the Boxster S torque has been increased by ten Nm to 370, at 4,750 rpm.

With more power the Boxster S Black Edition offers a superior driving performance. Thanks to the standard six-speed manual transmission it is able to accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds, a tenth of a second faster than the Boxster S, and to reach a top speed of 274 km/h. Although its power has been increased, when compared to the Boxster S, the Black Edition delivers the same fuel consumption in the  NEDC test cycle, with 9.8 litres per 100 kilometres.

In order to further raise performance and efficiency, the Boxster S Black Edition can also be fitted with the seven-speed Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK). In that case the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is cut to 5.1 seconds while top speed falls to 274 km/h. Thanks to the additional speed and the intelligent shifting strategy the fuel consumption is lowered to 9.4 l/100km in the NEDC cycle.

Black is of course the main colour on the special edition, a concept that can be found in every detail. For example the rear side air intake grilles are painted in black as well as the twin tailpipe of the exhaust system. The lettering painted in black on the rear luggage compartment lid identifies the Black Edition as does the embossed Black Edition model designation on the side of the fabric hood. Roll-over bars have also been painted in black.

Inside the black colour continues to dominate. The “Black Edition” model lettering in black can be found on the stainless steel door entry guards. The trim strips of the dashboard and of shift lever or gear selector are painted in black, while the dials on the instrument cluster are black as are the partial leather seats with the Porsche emblem embossed in the headrests. If requested, black leather interior is also available. In the glove compartment a limited edition badge compartment identifies the sports car as a model of the Black Edition.
