Norbert Reithofer, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, and Philippe Varin, Chairman of the Managing Board of PSA Peugeot Citroën have signed in Paris, France, an Agreement on further Development of 4-Cylinder Petrol Engine. This a step further on the collaboration that already exists between the two companies.
The French and the German brands have confirmed that they will be developing together the generation of the jointly designed 4-cylinder petrol engine which will meet EU 6 requirements. These engines are currently equipping several MINI, Peugeot and Citroën brand models.
In other to create further synergies, BMW and PSA are also considering the examination of other possible areas for cooperation at systems and component level. The objective is to collaborate in the development, production and procurement of selected components.
Both companies seem happy with the new agreement. According to Reithofer “We are delighted to continue our engine cooperation and look into options for further collaboration.” As for PSA Peugeot Citröen “this new agreement with BMW is confirming the success of the cooperation between our two companies which has produced 1.3 million engines since 2006. I am confident that the next generation of jointly developed engines will reach the same success as the current generation”, says Varin.
