Saab Buyer in Talks to Use Saab Name on Vehicles

The first new Saab from NEVS will be an electric version of the 9-3

When the Japanese-Chinese business consortium National Electric Vehicle Sweden on June 13 it received control of the brand's factories and platforms. What they did not receive though was the use of the name 'Saab' or the brand's griffon logo. This is because the Saab name and logo is controlled three ways by Saab, the automaker, Saab AB, the jet make and ScaniaScania-VabisScania-VabisSweden, 1907 > 19151 model
, the heavy truck maker. Any use of the Saab trademark has to be agreed upon by all three groups.

"Every use of the trademark had to be discussed. NEVS can't get hold of the Saab name until we've approved it. That is under discussion right now. We have to protect our good name and brand. We have to be sure the new owner will not jeopardize that name," said Hans-Ake Danielsson, a Scania spokesman.

The agreement on use of the name began in 1990 when GMFordFordUnited States of America, 1903 > present92 models

NEVS is in talks with both sides to get use of the name as soon as possible. It plans to build an electric version of the 9-39-3 Gen.2Saab 9-3 Gen.2Sweden, 2003 > present237 versions
