Earlier today, Toyota put out a press release showing off what they will have at its exhibit at the Tokyo Auto Show. One of the production cars that it will show is called the Aqua, and it turns out that what will be known as the Aqua in Japan, will be the Prius C for the rest of the world.
The Prius C is about 19in shorter than a standard Prius and 2in more narrow. It will also be powered by a 1.5 liter hybrid engine, as opposed to the 1.8 liter found in other Prius models. Unlike the standard Prius, the Prius C looks a lot more like a traditional five-door hatchback. The Prius C is meant to be an entry-level car but will get 50 miles per gallon according to Toyota. The lower price explains the simpler styling and sparse interior being shown on the Prius C.
We'll be able to glean more about the Prius C from what Toyota tells us about the Aqua and will know what the car is really like the North American Auto Show in January.
