makes its return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, SRT and Riley Technologies have unveiled the SRT Viper GT3-R that will be ready to race in December 2013. Its competition debut is expected early in the 2014 racing season.
The Viper GT3-R is powered by the same V10 as the production version but with air restrictors to reduce it in power.
Riley Technologies, which also developed the Viper GTS-R that is racing at Le Mans this weekend, will build the Viper GT3-R. The car has been modified to adhere to GT3 rules. The chassis gets a new aerodynamic package, and there is an Xtrac six-speed sequential transmission with paddle shifters. The brakes are upgraded with six-piston calipers in the front and four-piston calipers in the rear. There is also a multi-disc race clutch to handle the power of the V10.
Each car will run buyers $459,000 or €340,000. Today is the car's official announcement, and no teams have purchased one yet.
"The SRT Viper GT3-R is the next logical progression of our successful Viper GTS-R, a championship-proven formula that has captured some of the world's most prestigious races," said SRT President Ralph Gilles said.
