, HRT, had officially opened its new headquarters at the Caja Mágica in Madrid. The opening was attended by team principal Luis Pérez-Sala and drivers Pedro de la Rosa, Dani Clos and Ma Qing Hua. The Mayor of Madrid Ana Botella and the President of the Spanish Motorsport Federation and Vice-President of the FIA Carlos Gracia were also at the opening.
The group toured the new HRT headquarters but were not allowed into the workshop where engineers were preparing the F112 for the Monte Carlo Grand Prix.
Pedro de la Rosa said that he is happy that the team has such a modern facility. He believes that the team is on the road to competitiveness in Formula 1.
"We’ve taken the first step but now we must take the next one and develop it for it to become a leading sporting and technological center," said de la Rosa
The mayor of Madrid thanked HRT for setting up its workshop in the city and congratulated them on being the first Spanish team to get a Formula 1 license.
"They’ve written a golden page in the history of Spanish motorsport and for the people of Madrid it’s an honor and a privilege to have them here. In the Caja Mágica they have chosen the best facilities to become a sporting and technological icon and with this we are going to help Madrid to continue progressing and become an innovative city," said Botella.
Gracia was also happy to have a Spanish Formula 1 team in Spain. He toured the new building with FIA President Jean Todt a few weeks ago, and they were both impressed.
"I’ve never come across such a hungry and united team. We’ve achieved a lot but we must be patient, Formula 1 is the pinnacle of world motorsport and just being here and finishing races is a lot," said Gracia.
