. That would allow Toyota to easily build a hybrid model, possibly even from launch. The car will not be on roads until 2015 at the earliest. 

Toyota showed a compact crossover concept way back in 2001 called the RSC. It was designed by Toyota's CALTY design studio. 

There is nearly no chance that the production crossover will look anything like this concept, but it shows that Toyota is familiar with the concept.
