Ford and Vauxhall look to be fighting it out next year with their respecitve hot hatches. Ford has the new 250hp Focus ST and Vauxhall has just debuted the new Astra VXR.
The new Astra VXR is based on the newest generation Astra GTC but with a large number of chassis modifications. Chassis development was done on the Nuerburgring. It uses a mechanical limited-slip differential to mitigate torque steer. It also uses the GTC's HiPerStrut dynamic suspension system. The Astra VXR gets Brembo brakes and adaptive FlexRide system.
The Astra VXR is powered by a turbocharged 2.0 liter four-cylinder that produces 280PS and 400Nm of torque capable of a 155mph top speed.
The car wears custom front and rear bumpers, side skirts, roof spoiler and twin, trapezoidal exhaust tips. The interior has sport seats, VXR badges and flat-bottomed steering wheel.
Vauxhall has not announced a price for the VXR, but it will be available next year for sale.
