Vision EfficientDynamics may have received greenlight

Seems like the Vision EfficientDynamics (VED) concept has received the greenlight for production at BMW. The source: some addicted followers from everything that has to do with the German brand. Autoblog has posted the information, adding some details about the green vehicle.

According to the source, the VED should carry the nameplate i1 or i100 and that it will feature a chassis made of carbon fiber and be powered first by either by a gas hybrid or fully electric motor.

Last month rumours about the VED included that it would receive the drivetrain from the ActiveHybrid 5 Concept, which had already derived from the ActiveHybrid 7 Series. In that case the coupe would feature 300 horsepower thanks to a TwinPower turbo paired with a 40 kW electric motor, matted with an eight-speed transmission.

The ultimate hybrid variant, however, would be a 1.5-liter, three-cylinder motor with 181 horsepower, paired to two electric motors, each with output of 93 hp, matted with a double-clutch transmission. The hybrid version is supposed to be all-wheel drive, but there is also a plan for a rear-wheel drive model, perhaps for the electric version.

In terms of performance the production model of the VED is expected to run from 0-to-62 mph in four seconds and to run 58 miles per gallon, with a range of 250 miles. When it comes to the market the i1 or i100 should be priced from €125,000 to €175,000.

BMW is planning to only build 30,000 units within five years.
