Volkswagen and Audi Adding Jobs in 2012

Volkswagen and Audi have had major increases in their workforces and are planning even more.

Volkswagen added 28,000 global jobs in 2011 and now employees about 500,000 people. Of the jobs, 7,000 were in Germany, 11,000 in the rest of Europe and 10,000 outside of Europe in China, India and the US. Volkswagen also added another 70,000 jobs when it took control of MAN heavy trucks and Porsche Holding Salzburg. That puts VWs total addition to employment at 98,000 jobs this year.

"Once again, Volkswagen is a powerful motor for employment. Our cars generate enthusiasm among our customers. We are creating jobs, making considerable investments in new employees and securing the future of the Group," said Dr. Horst Neumann, Member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen.

Audi is now looking forward to large gains as well in employment. The company will invest €13 billion in new developments between 2012 and 2016 with €8 billion of that money being invested in Germany. Audi plans to add 1,200 new jobs in 2012. It added  2,970 jobs worldwide in 2011.

Audi is also ramping up on electric car production next year. It will introduce the A8 Hybrid, and it plans to introduce the R8 e-tron in 2012 as well.
