General Characteristics

Known in Audi by the codeame Typ 8X, the A1 is a supermini-class car which debuted at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. The Audi A1 was launched as a direct competitor of the Mini, and the Alfa Romeo Mito.

Aiming at young customers the A1 was created thinking on the urban environment. With compact dimensions (3.95 meters long, 1.74 meters wide and 1.42 meters tall) it offers a high degree of everyday utility.

The A1 is the first premium automobile in the small compacts class and comes with a unique and modern design. The side line with the distinctive roof arch, the coupe-like C-pillars, the large wheel wells and the front end with the typical single-frame grille are styling features that place the A1 in the Audi family.

The supermini car is based on the Volkswagen Group PQ25 platform, the same platform used in the SEAT Ibiza Mk4 and the VW Polo Mk5.
