The M4 convertible unveiled at the 2014 New York Auto Show has the same retractable three-piece metal roof from the 4 Series Convertible, which can be folded with the simple push of a button in just 20 seconds. BMW claims that the vehicle has better sound isolation than the previous M3, which reduced noise by 2 dB within the new M4 Convertible.
The car gets a number of changes regarding the 4 Series Convertible, including a more structured front bumper with larger air intakes for the engine and the front brakes, new trim on the kidney grille, a more creased contoured bonnet, wider front fenders with integrated elements of air intake to smooth the flow through the arches of the front wheels, new exterior mirrors, wider rear fenders and lower rear bumper with four round chromed exhaust outlets.
The luggage capacity increased compared to the previous M3 Cabrio to 370 liters when the roof is closed and 220 liters when open.
Inside, updates include heated sports seats, M steering wheel and new chrome trim.
The car is equipped with a twin-turbo engine of 3.0 liter six-cylinder with 430hp and 550Nm of torque. The M4 Cabrio reaches 100km/h in 4.4 seconds, 0.3 second slower than M4 Coupe. The reason why the cabriolet version is slower is mainly due to 250kg more over the 1750kg base weight of the vehicle. However the M4 Convertible is still 60kg lighter than the previous M3 Convertible.
The maximum speed is still limited to 250km/h, while the combined fuel consumption dropped to 8.7l/100km with CO2 emissions of 203g/km.
