The ATS was unveiled at the 2012 NAIAS and is available with three engines. There is a 2.0 liter turbocharged, four-cylinder engine with 270hp and 260lb-ft of torque. Also a 2.4l naturally aspirated, four-cylinder with 200hp and 188lb-ft of torque. Finally, the top of the range engine is a 3.6l V6 with 320hp and 267lb-ft of torque.
According to Cadillac the ATS as the only car in its class with active sound deadening as standard.
There are three microphones positioned inside the car that monitor interior noise. Like noise canceling headphones, the car detects the noise and emits sound waves to cancel it out. At idle, Cadillac claims that it makes the ATS 3 decibels, or roughly half, more quiet than without the system.
Cadillac worked with Bose to develop the system, and it works between 40Hz and 180Hz, which comprises low frequency noises. The ATS is also the first Cadillac available with CUE, Cadillac User Experience. The system has Bluetooth-connectivity and accepts USBS, SD cards and MP3s. It also accepts voice commands. Cadillac has cut the number of physical buttons to control the radio down to four.
There are two available suspensions on the ATS. The standard car has an open differential and MacPherson struts for the front suspension. It also comes with stability control, braking assist and traction control. The other option uses Magnetic Ride Control front and rear with a mechanical limited-slip differential. The magnetic suspension also gives the car a tighter turning circle and quicker steering ratio. This also comes with stability control, traction control and braking assist.

The Cadillac ATS was elected North American Car of the Year in 2013 and at the 2014 NAIAS the brand unveiled a coupé version of the model.
The coupe rides on the same wheelbase as the sedan but with a unique roof, doors, rear fenders and trunk lid. The front fascia and front fenders have also been widened compared to the sedan. The front also wears Cadillac’s new, simplified logo that no longer has a wreath around the crest and is blockier.
The ATS gets standard projector headlights with LED running lights or optional full LED headlights. All models get LED taillights, and the Performance and Premium trim levels get LED illuminated door handles.
The ATS Coupe shares an interior with the sedan, but for 2014, it is available with an in-car 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot and color head-up display. The cars let the latest generation of Cadillac’s CUE infotainment with text-to-voice and Siri Eyes Free for iPhone users.
Standard cars get a MacPherson strut front suspension with a five-link rear and Brembo front brakes, but the optional FE3 sports package adds a Magnetic Ride Control suspension, mechanical limited-slip differential, quicker steering ratio, Brembo rear brakes and wider wheels.
The ATS is available with either a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 272hp and 295lb-ft of torque or a 3.6-liter V6 with 321hp and 275lb-ft. The turbocharged engine gets a 14% boost in torque over the ATS sedan and will get it to 60mph in 5.6 seconds. The transmission options are either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic. The manual can only be ordered with the 2.0-liter turbo. The cars can be ordered in either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.

Cadillac was founded in 1902 by Henry Martyn Leland from the remains of Henry Ford’s car company. After financial disputes with its bankers, Ford left taking its name, and Leland stepped in, persuading the bankers to carry on with the carmaker. A new name was needed, and inspired in the French explorer that discovered Detroit in the beginning of the 17th century, Leland chose the explorer’s name to baptize the company: Cadillac.
