Chevrolet presented the Corvette C4 in 1983 and it entered production the next year. It had a 12-year lifetime with production ending in 1996. In 1988, Chevrolet produced a ‘35th Anniversary Edition’ Corvette, with a limited production of cars. In 1993 the Corvette celebrated its 40th anniversary.
topThe Corvette C4 was launched with the previous generation’s 200 hp engine, which was upgraded in 1985 to a 230 hp unit. In 1988, the C4 received a 5.7-liter 245 hp engine, being able to reach nearly 160 mi/h (257 km/h). 1992 saw the introduction of a 300 hp engine in the Corvette, which was replaced by a 330 hp unit in 1996. The Corvette has front-mounted engine and rear-wheel drive system. Early C4 cars were given a 4+3 transmission, which consisted on a 4-speed manual gearbox with automatic overdrive over the top 3 gears. This was replaced in 1989 by a ZF 6-speed manual gearbox.
