The Chevrolet Cruze is a GM model, marketed since 2001. Its first series was a subcompact crossover SUV. Since 2008 the Cruze is sold in its second series as compact car with front-engine layout and front-wheel drive.
Sold as Holden Cruze in Australasia and Daewoo Lacetti Premiere in South Korea, the 2008 generation is not related to the previous one in terms of design. Instead, it is the successor of the Chevrolet Cobalt.
The Cruze offers a number of engine versions, such as the 1.6-liter and 1.8-liter Family 1 inline-four and a 2.0-liter VM Motori VCDi turbocharged common rail diesel. All engine versions come as standard with a five-speed manual or optional six-speed automatic transmission featuring Active Select. At its launch in the United States in 2010, a new 1.4-liter Family 0 turbocharged gasoline engine joined the line-up. In North America the 1.8-liter gasoline engine is available with a standard six-speed manual.
