Citroën launched its tremendously worldwide popular model 2CV in 1949 and managed to keep it under uninterrupted production for 42 years (until 1990). This French revolutionary car got named ‘Deux Cheveux’, which literally stands for ‘two horses’, because of its real 2-hp output. Its huge success and popularity result from being such an economic, yet desirable car.
When the assembly of this versatile and low-priced model finally came to an end, in 1990, Citroën had produced 3.872.583 ‘2CV’ units, plus 1.246.306 copies of the ‘2CV camionette’ (small truck) version.
