Volkswagen premiered at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show the Cross Coupé, a concept SUV with innovative AWD and plug-in hybrid power train that points out some of the future design cues of VW models. The design developed by Walter de Silva and Klaus Bischoff brings the fusion between a four-door coupé and a compact SUV.
The Cross Coupé features a very long bonnet, a completely new front section design and the passenger compartment is placed way back and has a very low window line. The front section is where the most innovative cues in term of design have been adopted. The two chrome fins are used to emphasize the width of the vehicle and are part of an entirely new type of lighting concept. The lower chrome bar contains the daytime running light, and the fin above it contains the direction indicators.
