Daniel Ricciardo's (Potential) Big Break
So it has been more or less confirmed that Daniel Ricciardo will be replacing Narain Karthikeyan for HRT during the SIlverstone GP, and also probaby for the rest of the season except for the Indian GP, which is Karthikeyan's home GP.
Daniel Ricciardo is on a "loan deal" between HRT and Red Bull. From what I've heard, this means that Red Bull pays HRT to let Ricciardo, Toro Rosso's test driver, drive for them and gain experience. Ricciardo's performance has been outstanding so far this season - even driving in Toro Rosso's Jaime Alguersuari's or Sebastien Buemi's place during Friday practices, and it seems like the Australian driver's future in Formula One is getting progressively brighter. He graduated from the same programme that now puts 2010 World Champion Sebastian Vettel repeatedly on the front row of the grid. Are we seeing another young legend in the making? Are we looking at yet another driver whose F1 career is going to rocket straight to the top, similar to Sebastian Vettel's?
Many people think that if Mark Webber retires, Daniel Ricciardo will be the driver most likely to replace him at Red Bull Racing. What does this mean for the Toro Rosso drivers Jaime Alguersuari and Sebastien Buemi? It was often thought that one of the Toro Rosso drivers would rise up and earn themselves a seat at Red Bull once Webber retires, but with Ricciardo in the picture, will all that change for them?
But right now, all we can do is wait for the Silverstone Grand Prix and make the judgement ourselves.
What are your thoughts?
