The Fahrzeugfabrik Eisenach A.G. was founded by Heinrich Ehrhardt on 3rd December 1896 to produced guns and bicycles. In 1898 the Company started building automobiles under Decauville’s license. In 1903 the Decauville’s license was revoked which, coupled with financial losses led the Ehrhardt family to withdraw from management. Production continued under a new name Dixi. Dixi’s obtained very good results in racing. After an interruption during WWI, car production was resumed in 1919 but financial difficulties led to a merger with Gothaer Waggonfabrik AG. The company also engaged in the manufacture of smaller cars. In November 1928 the Company and the brand Dixi were bought by BMW. BMW sold the Dixi’s under the name BMW-Dixi for a short period but soon the brand was dropped.
